Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Design is an introductory course that builds foundational 2D and 3D drafting skills using industry standard CAD software. Students will learn to communicate design ideas clearly through orthographic and pictorial (isometric) drawings. Basic dimensioning and sectional views will be applied to create accurate technical drawings. Throughout the course, students will apply these skills to real-world, hands-on scenarios seen in engineering and architectural industries through the use of prototyping. (i.e. 3D printing, laser cutting, etc.)

Advanced Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Design builds on CAD & Design by expanding students' proficiency in both 2D drafting and 3D modeling. A major focus of the course is advanced 3D modeling, including creating detailed parts, assemblies, and production-ready drawings. Students design, prototype, test, and revise models using 3D printing and laser cutting. Throughout the course students work with more complex tools and constraints to see how designs are used in manufacturing, engineering, and architecture for production. Opportunities to earn industry-recognized CAD certification may be available.

This course introduces students to architectural design using both 2D and 3D drafting methods. Students will learn fundamental architectural concepts such as form, space, scale, proportion, circulation, site considerations, and basic building code principles. Students design residential or small commercial buildings by creating floor plans, elevations, sectional views, 3D representations / digital models, physical models, and presentation visuals. Throughout the course students become familiar with reading blueprints, applying foundational code requirements, and using architectural CAD standards.

Manufacturing & Materials I is an introductory course to the fundamentals of machine shop tools, their safety, and the use of modern digital equipment. Students learn safe operation of hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary woodworking machines while building a series of instructor designed projects. Students will practice measurement, layout, basic joinery, sanding, fastening, and finishing techniques. As skills develop, students may use introductory CNC or laser cutting tools to enhance their work. Emphasis is placed on safety, craftsmanship, problem-solving, and responsible use of various materials.

Manufacturing & Materials II is an intermediate course that advances students' fabrication abilities by introducing more complex tools, joinery techniques, and higher expectations for accuracy and design. Students design and build self-selected projects, taking responsibility for planning, material selection, cutting lists, and work flow. Students learn to interpret more detailed drawings, create and evaluate joinery options, and solve construction challenges. CNC routing and laser cutting tools are used more intentionally for components, templates, and decorative details. Students document their progress and evaluate their work for accuracy, fit, and finish.

Manufacturing & Materials III is an advanced, highly independent course focusing on the design and construction of custom and complex multi-material projects. Students take full ownership of the design process, from concept sketches to CAD models, material planning, joinery selection, fabrication, and finishing. Students use advanced tools, specialty jigs, precision measuring instruments, and digital fabrication equipment (CNC, laser) to produce high quality work. Emphasis is placed on craftsmanship, advanced joinery, construction techniques, style analysis, and high level problem solving.  This course is repeatable.
