Superintendent Message For April 7, 2017

Dear Olentangy families,

Although today started off with snow flurries, it really is April in Olentangy Local Schools! And although this Ohio spring weather is questionable, there is never a doubt that April brings fantastic opportunities to experience great work by our students and staff.

This week, I had the chance to attend the One Community Equity and Inclusion conference: Empowering Student Voice; a conference where our own students were the keynote speakers sharing their experiences and insights on this important topic. I could not be more impressed by our students’ professionalism, honesty and opinions. Congratulations to each of these young people for so effectively enlightening many of us through sharing their wisdom.

This week, I also attended an outstanding Mary Poppins performance at Orange High School. This spring musical was “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”! The remaining Mary Poppins performances will be held this weekend. If you are looking for something to do, this is worth your while! In addition, Olentangy High School’s theater department will be performing Shrek: The Musical the weekend of April 21-23 as well as hosting a pancake breakfast with a character meet and greet tomorrow morning in the OHS cafeteria and Liberty High School’s theater department will be debuting the Rock of Ages musical April 28-30. If you have not taken advantage of attending a high school theater production previously, I strongly encourage you to do so-our students are quite talented and their productions are always first-rate!

Our three high schools also host art festivals throughout the month of April annually. You will be able to attend Orange High School’s festival Sunday, April 9, Liberty High School’s festival Sunday, April 23 and Olentangy High School’s art festival Sunday, April 30. These festivals display impressive student artwork throughout the building and is yet another great showcase of fabulous student work.

Additionally, all spring sports are in full swing, despite the weather. If you have the chance, stop by any of these athletic events to cheer our student athletes on! Rain, snow or shine, they are doing a great job representing Olentangy Local Schools!

As always, when I reflect on the work of our students and staff, our amazing community support, I am humbled by the opportunity I have to serve as Superintendent of such a great school district and community. Thank YOU for all you do to make this a great place to be!

Proud to serve as your Superintendent,

Mark T. Raiff
