Superintendent Message For January 20, 2017
Dear Olentangy families,
Happy New Year! I hope 2017 is off to a great start for you and your family. Here at Olentangy, we are off and running with a solid start to a great second semester. The Board of Education met Thursday, January 12 and elected Roger Bartz to serve as Board President and Mindy Patrick to serve as Vice President. The Board also set their 2017 meeting dates and focused on the year ahead. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Dave King, who served as Board President in 2016. Visit our website to learn more about the January 12 meeting. The Board's next meeting will be held on January 26.
Our Attendance Boundary Committee continues to meet and examine our attendance boundaries for our redistricting project currently underway. The committee will be hosting three community forums in the coming weeks, as well as an online presentation outlining potential attendance boundary changes. Ultimately, the committee will make a recommendation to me, and I will announce my decision in mid-March. To read more about the community forums and pre-register to attend, click here.
The District is proud to be hosting our annual One Community: Equity and Inclusion Conference event series February 1 and April 5. I encourage you to consider attending this valuable, no cost to you, conference. The theme of this year’s series is “Empowering Student Voice.” Attendees will hear from the most valuable voice in our communities - our students. To learn more and register to attend this top-rate event which includes nationally known keynote speakers and our students, click here.
The Olentangy Education Foundation (OEF), an organization in place to raise funds for teacher grants and student scholarships, is holding their 9th annual Spirit of Olentangy Community Night on March 4, 2017, for all community members. This event is a great time to gather with your friends in support of OEF’s mission to enhance academic excellence in the Olentangy Local Schools. The Spirit of Olentangy Community Night features live music, a silent auction, great food, a designer purse bingo for those so inclined, and much more! Click here more information and to register to join me for this fun evening supporting our schools!
All three opportunities I have shared above are unique and different ways for members of the community to engage with our school district. I am proud to work and live in a district that continually connects with the community - this is what makes us a unique and special place.
I hope to see you at some of these events!
Proud to serve as your Superintendent,
Mark T. RaiffSuperintendent, Olentangy Local Schools
