Board Highlights for September 27, 2018


The following is a summary of the Olentangy Local School District Board of Education's September 27, 2018 Business Session held at the District's Administrative Office at 7840 Graphics Way.


Jessica Timmons, teacher at Olentangy Orange High School, presented “Pioneers for Pollinators,” a project-based learning experience that allowed students to explore, explain and apply information about environmental stewardship.

Lori Carter-Evans, director of transportation, presented a transportation briefing about the current status of the district’s transportation department and the strategic plan. A goal is to reduce the amount of preventable accidents and to increase the pool of school bus drivers.

Dr. Jack Fette, chief academic officer, and Jeanette Kenney, assistant curriculum director, presented on the 2018 Ohio’s School Report Card. Overall, the district receive a B, ranking it 25th in the state, 4th in central Ohio and 3rd in similar districts for performance index.

Board President's Report:

Board President Mindy Patrick spoke enthusiastically about a number of district activities including one elementary school walk-a-thon where she walked alongside kindergarteners.   

Superintendent's Report:

Superintendent Mark Raiff shared ways the district is living its mission including: National Merit updates, Braves Bistro, Multicultural Family School Resource Workshop, Olentangy Teacher Academy, United Way Award and the new OLD Instagram. He spoke about one action item regarding the resolution to authorize the designation of the Director of Safety, Security and Preparedness to possess a concealed carry weapon.

Treasurer's Report:

District Treasurer Emily Hatfield provided an update regarding approved financials for August 2018, insurance rates/renewal for district employees and recent donations made to the district.

Action Items:

All action items were approved as presented.
