Board Highlights for October 11, 2018

The following is a summary of the Olentangy Local School District Board of Education's October 11, 2018 Business Session held at the District's Administrative Office at 7840 Graphics Way.


  • The Ozone Robotics Club, led by Orange High School instructor Rory Schmidt, shared information about the club and the FIRST Robotics Competition — a global event encompassing 3,600 high school teams from 28 countries. Students presented their robot to the Board and explained the many STEM educational opportunities the club offers.
  • Vincent De Tillio, supervisor of professional learning, provided a professional development update. He shared that teachers are being taught how to engage in meaningful work through discussion, feedback and self-regulation, develop collaborative inquiry, and have purposeful interactions and develop meaningful relationships.
  • Jeffrey Gordon, director of business facilities, provided an updated on 2018 Permanent Improvement Projects.

Board President's Report:

Board President Mindy Patrick spoke about the many awareness days/months that take place in October including Dyslexia Awareness and Principal's Month. She shared that there are many opportunities to recognize the great work taking place in our schools.

Superintendent's Report:

Superintendent Mark Raiff shared many ways the district is living its mission including: Military Appreciation Night, flu clinics with DGHD, the Global Scholars program, Kindness is Contagious Facebook series, OEF Golf Outing fundraiser event. He also shared background information on the events that took place that morning involving the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the low-level lockdown of two Olentangy Schools.

Treasurer's Report:

District Treasurer Emily Hatfield provided a five-year financial forecast for the district. The report showcased FY19 anticipated revenue by category, risks to revenue, FY19 anticipated expenditures by category, expenditures risks, enrollment trends, pupil/teacher ratios, and revenues v. expenditures through FY 23.

Action Items:

All action items were approved as presented.
