Food Service Information

Updated at 8 p.m. April 5, 2020

Dear Parents,

We have important information to share with you regarding the district’s food service program. It has been brought to our attention that one of our food service workers started to experience virus-like symptoms on Friday (two days after our last food distribution date). While this individual did not have direct contact with any of our students or their families, we must do everything we can to minimize potential exposure moving forward. As such, we will shift to a once-a-week food distribution schedule where all meals for the entire week will be distributed at one time. This change will begin tomorrow, April 6, and will continue for the duration of the program or until further notice.

Distribution will continue to take place at all six locations from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., and the same rules apply. Students must be present to claim meals, and delivery arrangements will be made for families who cannot make it during the distribution date/time.

Since the start of the food distribution program, Olentangy Schools has followed all CDC and Ohio Department of Health guidelines, including social distancing. All staff at food preparation and distribution sites have had their temperatures regularly monitored, and the sites have undergone extensive cleaning before and after food preparation and distribution. These measures will continue; however, this new information requires additional safeguards. The schedule change will help minimize potential virus exposure, and it will give workers time to alert us to symptoms. Also, in accordance with Delaware General Health District guidelines, any food service worker who came in close, extended contact with the employee will self-quarantine for the next two weeks.

Our intention is to serve healthy and nutritious meals to our students as long as we are able to provide a safe environment for our staff, students, and their families. We understand this schedule change may be inconvenient for some families; however, we have to put safety first.

Thank you for your understanding.

The district is keeping a close eye on how our families are impacted by Coronavirus-related mandates. The latest change requesting all Ohioans to stay at home will certainly impact jobs and incomes. As such, our meal service program is available to all Olentangy students, free of charge.

Please review the following information for details:

Meals are distributed on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. from six locations. The Monday distribution includes 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts. The Wednesday distribution includes 3 lunches and 3 breakfasts.

Six Locations

  • Glen Oak Elementary: 7300 Blue Holly Dr., Lewis Center
  • Heritage Elementary: 679 Lewis Center Rd., Lewis Center
  • Liberty High School: 3584 Home Rd., Powell
  • Oak Creek Elementary: 1256 Westwood Dr., Lewis Center
  • Olentangy Meadows Elementary: 8950 Emerald Hill Dr., Lewis Center
  • Orange High School: 2840 East Orange Rd., Lewis Center

All meals are pre-packaged, and students/parents/guardians should pick them up at the main entrance of each location. Students/parents/guardians can walk to pick up their meals, or parents/guardians can drive-thru. If driving, meals will be brought directly to the vehicle. A student must be present to receive a meal. Student names will need to be provided, but student identification isn't necessary.

To minimize exposure, meals cannot be consumed on-site. No-contact delivery will be made available for families that are ill or are unable to pick up meals at one of the locations. Those families should call 740-657-5057. Also, if a student requires dietary accommodations, use the same number to alert the Food Service Department 24-hours before pick-up. If you have questions, please contact the Food Service Department at olsd_lunchaccount@olsd.us.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Our meal service program will change starting next week on Monday, March 23. Going forward, we will distribute meals on Mondays and Wednesdays (not all five days) from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and from six sites instead of seven (removing Tyler Run). These changes were made to minimize how many times a week a family has to come and get meals, and it also minimizes the potential for contact. These changes will remain until further notice.

Students 18 years old or younger will receive the following meals at no charge:

  • Monday – 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts
  • Wednesday – 3 lunches and 3 breakfasts

These are the six meal pick-up locations:

  • Glen Oak Elementary: 7300 Blue Holly Dr., Lewis Center
  • Heritage Elementary: 679 Lewis Center Rd., Lewis Center
  • Liberty High School: 3584 Home Rd., Powell
  • Oak Creek Elementary: 1256 Westwood Dr., Lewis Center
  • Olentangy Meadows Elementary: 8950 Emerald Hill Dr., Lewis Center
  • Orange High School: 2840 East Orange Rd., Lewis Center

All meals are pre-packaged, and students/parents/guardians should pick them up at the main entrance of each site location. Students/parents/guardians can walk to pick up their meals, or parents/guardians can drive-thru. If driving, meals will be brought directly to the vehicle. A student must be present to receive a meal. Student names will need to be provided, but student identification isn't necessary.

Meals cannot be consumed on-site to minimize exposure. No-contact delivery will be made available for families that are ill or are unable to pick up meals at one of the six sites. Those families should call 740-657-5057. Also, if a student requires dietary accommodations, use the same number to alert the Food Service Department 24-hours before pick-up.

The Olentangy Schools Food Service Department will continue providing breakfast and lunch to district students on weekdays starting on Tuesday, March 17, until further notice. Seven sites will be open for meal pick-up from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. These meals are free of charge for students currently receiving free and reduced-priced meals, as well as for students whose families are struggling as a result of the pandemic. During the open time windows, lunch will be provided for that day plus breakfast for the following morning.

These are the seven site locations:

  • Glen Oak Elementary: 7300 Blue Holly Dr., Lewis Center
  • Heritage Elementary: 679 Lewis Center Rd., Lewis Center
  • Liberty High School: 3584 Home Rd., Powell
  • Oak Creek Elementary: 1256 Westwood Dr., Lewis Center
  • Olentangy Meadows Elementary: 8950 Emerald Hill Dr., Lewis Center
  • Orange High School: 2840 East Orange Rd., Lewis Center
  • Tyler Run Elementary: 580 Salisbury Dr., Powell

All meals are pre-packaged, and students/parents/guardians should pick them up at the main entrance of each site location. Students/parents/guardians can walk to pick up their meals, or parents/guardians can drive-thru. If driving, meals will be brought directly to the vehicle. A student must be present to receive a meal, and only one day's worth of meals will be provided per student. Student names will need to be provided, but student identification isn't necessary.

Meals cannot be consumed on-site to minimize exposure. No-contact delivery will be made available for families that are ill or are unable to pick up meals at one of the seven sites. Those families should call 740-657-5057. Also, if your student requires dietary accommodations, use the same number to alert the Food Service Department 24-hours before pick-up.

We are lucky to live in a community that is eager to help our students. While we are grateful for offers to deliver food and make food donations, district staff is available to make deliveries, and USDA guidelines forbid us from using donated food for district-prepared and distributed meals. If you would like to help, please contact Delaware People In Need or United Way of Delaware County.
