Family Service Opportunities

OOMS family and friends - you are welcome to join us for our monthly Family Service events! Our staff has worked hard to put together one event per month for OOMS staff, students, family, and friends to get out in the community and help serve others. See details below!

UPCOMING OOMS Service

Parents,

Each year many different groups at OOMS adopt families in the Columbus area who need help with the holidays. We work with the MoMM Foundation. The children in these families send in wish lists to the foundation. The sponsors who adopt the families spend $50 per child.  The foundation also provides each child with a stocking filled with items and a winter coat. If you are interested in learning more about the MoMM Foundation, please select this link.

This year, as a December Service Opportunity, OOMS families will be helping to deliver the gifts to families.

The event will be December 15th from 9am-12pm. If you would like to help with the delivery of gifts to one or more of these families, please click on the Sign Up Genius link HERE.

Thank you for your continued support!

OCTOBER 2017 – Make a Difference Day

Are you looking for a service opportunity for your family?  Check out this amazing event for families offered through Connections Volunteer Center:

On October 28th, Connections will help Delaware County celebrate National Make A Difference Day by gathering volunteers for a morning of service to our Senior Community and to area non-profits.  Volunteers will gather that morning at Camp Lazarus, on Rt. 23 just South of Delaware, and have a light breakfast and jobs are assigned to volunteers. The volunteers then go out all over the county to do good works. Volunteers then return to camp with their paperwork and share their stories and enjoy some delicious hot dogs.  Individuals, families, and groups are welcome to participate.  All ages are welcome.  Adult supervision is required and students can not be dropped off. Registration is open on the Connections Volunteer Center website.

We hope to see you there!

DECEMBER 2017 - PIN Drive and MoMM Blessings

People in Need (PIN) drive

MoMM Foundation Holiday Blessings

Each year the MoMM Foundation helps make the holidays special for families in need around Central Ohio.  This year the MoMM Foundation adopted 130 families!!! Orange Middle school students and staff will provide gifts for close to 15 of these families!  The MoMM Foundation supplies holiday gifts for all of the children in the family and provides them all with a winter coat, pajamas, and a stocking.  For our December family service opportunity we will be helping the MoMM Foundation deliver these items to families in Central Ohio. We met at the Westerville Jaycee Pool on Saturday, December 16th at 1:00PM.

January/February 2018 - Pop Tab Collection for Ronald McDonald House

From January 29th to February 23rd, Student Council collected Pop Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald house is a charity based in Ohio. They help raise money to provide housing for families that have children that are seriously injured or ill. Pop tabs were donated to the Ronald McDonald House at the end of February!

April 2018

Honor Flight Columbus

We welcomed home Veterans from the first Honor Flight of 2018 on Saturday, April 7th. See photos below.

From Mr. Demana: "I would like to add it was simply an amazing experience when I attended last year. To see these WW II, Korean, and Vietnam vets coming off of their flight, was heartwarming. I encourage all of you to take your student to this event and allow them to see and shake the hands of these brave men and women before they're gone." There are more Honor Flights this year - see the schedule at this link

May 11 - 8th Grade Service Day

Every 8th grader performs service in the community at a location in the community.  We presented the different choices and they got to choose their top 3...teachers do the best to match students with their choices.

JANUARY 2017 – Agora Christian Services: Sorting clothing that was donated to a free store for those in need.

OOMS students, family, and staff braved the cold of January 21st in a warehouse in downtown Columbus to help sort donated clothing by gender and size. OOMS teacher Phil Callaghan set up this partnership with the MoMM Foundation, a charity who collects donated items year-round and distributes to local organizations for people in need. The sorted clothing then goes to a free store, where it is available at no cost for those in need.
