Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Our Schools

Preparing Students for the Future

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an important part of the world our students live, learn, and work in. Olentangy Schools Board of Education recently adopted Policy 7540.09: Artificial Intelligence (AI) to guide the responsible use of AI technologies throughout our school district.

This policy supports the thoughtful use of AI as a tool to enhance learning, creativity, productivity, and innovation while maintaining high standards for privacy, safety, academic integrity, and human oversight.

Our Committment

As we explore AI opportunities, our district is committed to:

  • Protecting student and staff privacy
  • Maintaining academic honesty and integrity
  • Ensuring AI is used safely and responsibly
  • Providing guidance and training for staff and students
  • Keeping humans at the center of decision-making
  • Following all state laws, federal laws, and district policies regarding technology use

What This Means for Students

Students may be permitted to use approved AI tools as part of their learning experience when directed by their teachers.

Students are expected to:

  • Use AI tools ethically and responsibly.
  • Follow classroom expectations and district technology guidelines.
  • Cite or acknowledge AI use when required.
  • Protect personal and confidential information.
  • Continue to demonstrate their own learning and critical thinking.

Families play an important role in helping students navigate emerging technologies.

We encourage parents and guardians to:

  • Discuss responsible AI use at home.
  • Ask students how AI is being used in their classes.
  • Encourage critical thinking and fact-checking.
  • Learn about both the opportunities and limitations of AI tools.
