Credit Monitoring & Identity Protection

The district continues to remain in contact with PowerSchool following the global improper disclosure of student and staff data in PowerSchool’s Student Information System.
Today, PowerSchool informed us that credit monitoring and identity protection services are now activated and available. They have partnered with Experian to provide complimentary protection services for current and former students and staff; this information will be emailed directly to you from Experian. PowerSchool and Experian have also coordinated a toll-free call center for questions about credit monitoring and identity protection services: 833-918-9464.
While Olentangy Schools does not store Social Security Numbers, banking information, or credit card information in our student information system, the services provided by PowerSchool and Experian offer our families and staff an additional safeguard.
PowerSchool has assured us they will continue to share updates in response to this incident, and additional information can be found in their community FAQs.

January 16, 2025
As shared on January 10, PowerSchool recently informed Olentangy Schools of a global data breach involving PowerSchool’s Student Information System.
The district’s internal investigation has determined that the unauthorized access to our student information system did not improperly disclose student or staff social security numbers, financial information, or login credentials; Olentangy Schools does not store this sensitive data in its student information system.
Based on reports from PowerSchool as of today, the following student data was accessed through this incident:
- Student directory information such as:
- Name
- Home address
- Phone number
- Birthdate
- District email address
- District notations and alerts
PowerSchool has informed all districts, including Olentangy Schools, that they believe the improperly disclosed data has been deleted and will not be shared anywhere publicly.
PowerSchool’s investigation is still ongoing, and they have provided community FAQs to address any questions families might have about the incident.
Olentangy Schools will continue to inform you of any further updates, including information related to credit monitoring or identity protection resources, we receive from PowerSchool.
January 10, 2025
On Tuesday, January 7, PowerSchool notified its nearly 18,000 clients, including Olentangy Schools, of a cybersecurity incident that allowed student and staff data from its PowerSchool Student Information System to be improperly disclosed.
In that time, the district’s Technology Department implemented its cybersecurity response protocols and engaged in conversations with PowerSchool to evaluate the extent to which any Olentangy Schools data may have been accessed.
As of today, the district’s internal investigation determined that impacted information does not include any of the following:
- Social Security Numbers
- Banking Information
- Credit Card Information
- Passwords and Login Credentials
PowerSchool has informed all clients that they have taken appropriate steps to prevent the data of its more than 60 million students and staff from further unauthorized access or misuse. This incident does not impact any other PowerSchool product.
Olentangy Schools will continue to work with PowerSchool and our legal counsel to implement and maintain adequate safeguards against the improper disclosure of staff and student data.
