On Tuesday, January 7, PowerSchool notified its nearly 18,000 clients, including Olentangy Schools, of a cybersecurity incident that allowed student and staff data from its PowerSchool Student Information System to be improperly disclosed.
In that time, the district’s Technology Department implemented its cybersecurity response protocols and engaged in conversations with PowerSchool to evaluate the extent to which any Olentangy Schools data may have been accessed.
As of today, the district’s internal investigation determined that impacted information does not include any of the following:
- Social Security Numbers
- Banking Information
- Credit Card Information
- Passwords and Login Credentials
PowerSchool has informed all clients that they have taken appropriate steps to prevent the data of its more than 60 million students and staff from further unauthorized access or misuse. This incident does not impact any other PowerSchool product.
Olentangy Schools will continue to work with PowerSchool and our legal counsel to implement and maintain adequate safeguards against the improper disclosure of staff and student data.
We will keep you updated on any further information we receive from PowerSchool.
