The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Olentangy Schools for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023, and the GFOA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR Award) for its Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.
“The GFOA awards are a recurrent recognition of the hard work and dedication of the Olentangy Treasurer’s team, and of our district-wide culture of fiscal responsibility and transparency,” shared Olentangy Schools Treasurer Ryan Jenkins. “The GFOA Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting is another example of the value we place on every tax dollar and our vision to be the recognized leader for high performance and efficiency in education, and the PAFR Award signifies that we are communicating that exceptional value to our stakeholders effectively.”
The GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. This is the 23rd consecutive year that Olentangy Schools has received the coveted award.
The PAFR Award represents a significant achievement by the District for providing stakeholders with an annual comprehensive financial report based on the following categories: reader appeal, understandability, distribution methods, creativity and other elements.
“Mr. Jenkins and the District’s Treasury Department continually explore new and creative ways to provide savings to the Olentangy community and advocate for our district to receive fair funding,” added Board of Education President Brandon Lester. “He is an educator at heart and provides transparency while delivering a deeper understanding of school finances for our entire One Olentangy community.”
The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
