U.S. News & World Report released its 2026 Best Elementary and Middle Schools rankings, and 16 Olentangy elementary schools ranked in the top 8.3% out of 2,989* Ohio elementary schools, and five Olentangy middle schools ranked in the top 2.9% out of 2,047* Ohio middle schools based on state test data from the 2023-24 school year.  

Scioto Ridge Elementary (#46), Tyler Run Elementary (#56), and Heritage Elementary (#63) placed top in the state. Hyatts Middle School (#23) and Shanahan Middle School (#25) and Liberty Middle School (#30) placed in the top 30 middle schools in the state. 

"In Olentangy Schools, strong school communities within thoughtfully designed learning spaces foster meaningful student experiences from the earliest grades through high school," shared Superintendent Todd Meyer. "By cultivating a sense of pride and community, we promote educational excellence and our student's personal achievement through environments where every student can flourish – resulting in our schools earning these top rankings." 

To compile the rankings for each state, schools were assessed on students scoring proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments. Peachblow Crossing Elementary and Berlin Middle School are not yet eligible for these rankings.   

U.S. News' K-12 directory lists 127,538 schools, including 105,193 public schools and 22,345 private schools. Among the 81,046 public schools with elementary and/or middle school grades, 64,915 (80%) were ranked in either the elementary or middle schools ranking. These include 5,411 schools ranked in both. In total, 46,998 elementary schools and 23,328 middle schools were ranked.
