Drug Education Public Forum
Tera Parrella

More than 6 million Americans ages 12 and older have used a prescription drug non-medically in the last month alone. As many diseases are now being prevented or managed as chronic conditions, it is important to remember that any medication can also cause harm when misused. Generation Rx representative, local pharmacist, and Olentangy High School graduate Tera Parrella will discuss the dangers of misusing prescription medications and safe medication practices during this free public forum to be held from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7 at Olentangy Liberty High School, 3584 Home Road.

The mission of Generation Rx is to education people of all ages about safe medication practices. In doing so, Generation Rx strives to enhance medication safety within our communities to educate all age levels on medication safety and the dangers of medication misuse and abuse. Parella is a 2009 Olentangy High School graduate, where she spent most of her free time playing field hockey and volunteering her time as the President of the Service Club. She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University in 2015 and has since been practicing at Kroger Pharmacy. Tera and her husband recently purchased a house within the OLSD and looks forward to starting her own family in our great community.

Sell Your Kids: Growth Messages That Successful Kids Learn
Jim "Basketball" Jones

Why do some kids fear failure? Why do some kids seem to rise to the challenge? Why do many talented students with great grades and elite test scores drop out of prestigious universities they worked so hard to get in? Kids get so many mixed messages from society about success, being smart and their self-worth. It makes being a parent a huge challenge. How do we help our children? What are the clear messages we need to sell to our kids so they have the courage and strength to persevere? On November 8, the Olentangy community is invited to hear youth motivational speaker Jim "Basketball" Jones provide answers to these questions. During the free public forum, Jones will help parents understand the latest research on child development and provide actionable steps to help their child become more resilient. The free presentation will be held at 7 p.m Nov. 8, 2017 at  Olentangy High School, 675 Lewis Center Road. Free childcare will be available.
