Summer School FAQs


When is orientation? Orientation is June 5th at Olentangy High School. If you are taking a Schoology course orientation starts at 5:00. If you are taking an APEX course orientation starts at 6:00.

 

Can I register at orientation? No. Registration will close at 11:59PM on May 31st.

 

Can I drop a course? Will I still receive a grade? What about a refund? You must notify Linda Meade at linda_meade@olsd.us or 740-657-5800 by June 15th at 3:00PM to drop a course. If you drop by this date you will receive a full refund and a grade will not be reported to your school. If you do not drop by this date the grade you receive in the course will be reflected on your transcript, and a refund will not be provided.

 

Can I submit work after July 10th? No. July 10th is the last day of summer session and all coursework must be submitted by the end of the day.

 

I’m planning on going on vacation. Can I still take summer school? Yes, but ONLY if you have reliable internet access AND sufficient time to devote to your course each day. Summer school courses require an accelerated pace so please keep this in mind when deciding if summer school is right for you.

 

How much time do I need to work each day on my summer school course to be successful? It varies with each student, but average is around 3 hours a day.

 

When can I get access to the course? All students will receive access to the course during orientation on June 5th. See above for Schoology and APEX times.

 

When will final grades be posted? Grades are always available in Schoology and APEX. Teachers will have all final grades entered in Schoology and APEX by July 17th. Grades will be transferred into PowerSchool before the first day or school.

 

Do I need to take the Ohio’s State Test? When is it? You will need to take the Ohio’s State Test end-of-course assessment if you are in one of the following courses: CP English 9, CP English 10, Algebra I, Geometry, U.S. Government or U.S. History. You must indicate on your registration whether you are planning on taking the test over the summer or in the late fall.

 

Ohio’s State Tests Summer Testing Dates are July 17-19, 2017

 

● CP English 9 and CP English 10 will be administered Monday, July 17, 2017

 

● Algebra and Geometry will be administered Tuesday, July 18, 2017

 

● US Government and US History will be administered Wednesday, July 19, 2017

 

Where will the summer Ohio’s State Tests be administered? The summer Ohio’s State Tests will be administered each day at Shanahan Middle School (located at 814 Shanahan Rd. Lewis Center) from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Students should plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early to get checked in for testing. Students will enter on the far right side the building not through Shanahan’s main door. Signs will be clearly posted outside and inside directing students. Students are required to bring a photo ID with them.

 

How can students prepare for summer Ohio’s State Tests? Students can prepare for the end-of-course state tests through the Summer End-of-Course Testing Resources: Summer 2017 course in Schoology. Students can access by this course by using the access code - 5DQHR-MQPW7. This course will provide students with additional course content and access to the online practice tests and scoring guides.

 

What courses are being offered on APEX? Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre Calculus, World History Since the Renaissance, Geography and World Cultures, U.S. and Global Economics, U.S. Government and Politics, U.S. History Since the Civil War, CP Earth and Space and Health.

 

What courses are being offered on Schoology? College Prep English 9-12 and Physical Education.

 

I don’t attend Olentangy. Can I still register for summer school? Courses are only offered to students within the Olentangy Local School District.
