How does a salary increase work for the employees of the school district?

It depends on the employee’s classification.  For instance, classified employees at certain points receive what is known as “step” increases.  These are increases that employees receive for so many years of service.

Certified employees also receive step increase.  However because of the additional education requirements for their positions, they also receive increases for achieving certain educational milestones.  For instance when a teacher earns their master’s degree, they receive an increase.

Administrative employees do not receive step increases.  They do receive compensation for certain educational milestones, but this is not included in their base salary.

All employees usually receive what is known as COLA or Cost of Living Adjustment increases on an annual basis.  However, all employees recently agreed to a one-year zero percent increase to the base salary.  In other words no COLA.  This equates to a more than $2 million cost savings for the Olentangy Local Schools District.

Has the principal for elementary school #15 been selected yet and will there be an assistant principal for this school?

Elementary school 15 is located on land in between Olentangy High School (OHS) and Olentangy Shanahan Middle School (OSMS) and is scheduled to open during the 2011-12 school year.  While the school is still under construction, the district is also beginning the process of staffing the school, selecting a name and other essential elements to opening any new school.  None of these decisions have been made at this time, but the district will communicate with the general public as to the progress of each important step along the way to opening this school.
