Building Site Selection
The District has a very rigorous process for site evaluation and selection. The same process is used whether it’s a donated or purchased site. From the standpoint of cost to taxpayers, we prefer “gifted” sites. These frequently require additional planning and coordination, but the savings make it worth the extra time required.
The following considerations are given as we select sites:
- Size and shape of property.
- Site preparation costs.
- Location compared to projected students enrollment patterns.
- Current or future availability of sewer, water, gas, electricity and phones based on when the site will be needed for a building.
- Environmental issues such as wetlands, trees, jurisdictional streams.
- Proximity of power lines, railroads, freeways and site accessibility.
Perfect sites do not exist. However, the safety of our children and staff will always be given top priority in our selection process.
