Olentangy Again Earns State's Highest Rating of "Excellent"

Olentangy exceeded all 25 state standards and earned the state’s highest rating of “Excellent” on the 2005-06 District Report Card issued today.   This marks the third consecutive year that Olentangy met all state standards and it is the fourth of five years in which Olentangy earned the state’s highest rating of “Excellent.”

In addition to earning the high overall rating, this is the first year that the district earned a performance index score above 100.  Olentangy’s score improved from 99.8 to 103.3.  The performance index is a weighted calculation improved by having more students scoring at the two highest levels — “advanced” and “accelerated” — on the achievement tests.

“I am very pleased that Olentangy continues to rate among Ohio’s top school districts on the State Report Card,” said Dr. Scott Davis, Olentangy superintendent.  “The achievement of our students is not only a credit to them but to the parents, staff and community of this school system.”

Davis commented that the data from this report card will be analyzed and used along with other data to assess how Olentangy is meeting its goal of “facilitating maximum learning for every student.”  All of this information is compiled as part of the district’s Annual Report on Student Achievement for presentation to the board and community in late fall of each year.

The Ohio Department of Education issues report cards on Ohio’s public schools and grades them according to a number of state standards.  Twenty-five state standards appear on the 2005-06 Report Card, 23 of which are based on student achievement tests taken in the 2005-06 school year.  The remaining two indicators are student attendance (2005-06 school year) and graduation rate (2004-05 school year).
