Interact Service Club

What is the purpose of the OLHS Interact Service Club?

The purpose of the OLHS Interact Service Club is to help members develop character, responsibility, and the skills necessary to become productive, contributing citizens by providing opportunities for members to help those in need in our school, community, and internationally.

How do I join the Interact Service Club? What are the membership requirements?

All OLHS students are eligible for membership to the Interact Service Club. Official membership is determined both by the hours of active service and by the member's reliability in attendance at those Interact Service Club events the member participates in.

  1. Members will earn club privileges based on their level of involvement in Interact Service Club activities:
Level of MembershipMinimum Number of Events RequiredVolunteer HoursPrivileges
PLATINUM361+Attend annual banquet, run for club office, vote of club officers
GOLD241 - 60Attend annual banquet, run for club office, vote of club officers
    SILVER120 - 40vote of club officers
    BASIC010 - 19none
Opportunities for service will be abundant. Members can earn hours by finding opportunities on the Interact Service Club Bulletin Board or from those activities pre-approved as Interact Service Club activities or events. Members are responsible for submitting Interact Service Club Verification Sheets (completed in full) by the last day of each month.
  2. Members must complete and return the Parental Acknowledgement and Release Form.
  3. Members must pay $10.00 annual dues, and an additional one-time $5.00 fee for the purchase of a Interact Service Club t-shirt, which is to be worn at any Interact Service Club activity.
  4. Members must complete those service activities they sign up for in full. Failure to do so will be logged as a "no-show" on the member's Service Hours Log. Repeated "no-shows" (including leaving early or arriving late to service opportunities) will result in dismissal from Interact Service Club.
  5. Interact Service Club hours will be awarded for those pre-approved activities (posted on the Interact Service Club Board) that are above and beyond participation in any other school function, class, club, sport, or activity. Service to these other organizations are valuable, but do not count toward Interact Service Club membership hours.
  6. Members will attend Interact Service Club meetings as required. Meetings will be announced on the school announcements and distributed through member emails and Facebook, and will only be required when necessary.
  7. Members will abide by the regulations of the Olentangy Liberty High School Code of Conduct during each Interact Service Club activity.

Interested students need to complete the Interact Service Club application (with parent’s signature) and return it to the OLHS Main Office along with the required $10.00 membership dues.

How do members find out about service opportunities?

Service opportunities are posted on the Service Wall located across the hall from Student Services. This is where students sign up for service opportunities. Opportunities will also be announced on morning announcements, email lists, and Facebook. Once a student signs up for a service opportunity, he/she should take a blank Service Verification Sheet. The Service Verification Sheet is the form used to verify the member’s participation in the event, and must be completed in full by the participant and signed by a leader or organizer for the event.

Members are also encouraged to participate in service opportunities outside of those posted on the Service Wall. These include opportunities at churches, in neighborhoods, at the local Humane Society, at local hospitals and clinics, or other similar opportunities. Students are also encouraged to participate in longer-term service opportunities such as Ohio Reads or the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program. For more information about these longer-term opportunities, students should see Mrs. Andrews.

How are member service hours verified and recorded?

Interact Service Club members must complete the Service Verification Sheet to verify each service activity. Every time service is performed, the member must complete the Service Verification Sheet, include a brief description of what was learned by participation in the event, and the site coordinator (not a parent) must sign the Service Verification Sheet. Students will then enter their hours online and turn in the verification sheet to the Main Office by 4:00 p.m. on the last school day of the month the service was conducted in. Hours are then verified by advisors and/or club officers and will be recorded on the student's high school student information record. If a student signs up for a service opportunity but fails to return a Service Verification Sheet, the entry is logged as "service not verified" and is not counted as part of the student's total service hours.

Read this document to learn how to record your hours online.

How many service hours are expected to remain a member in good standing?

Interact Service Club members will be designated status based on the levels described in #1 of the membership requirements above. While these hours may be a combination of those posted on the Service Wall and those the student has identified on his/her own, students are expected to participate in the events posted on the Service Wall in order to remain an active member of the Interact Service Club. This is because one goal of the Interact Service Club is to provide assistance to those members of the community who have specifically asked for the help of the OLHS Interact Service Club. Finally, failure to show for an event is cause for dismissal from Interact Service Club.

How can an organization request assistance of the Interact Service Club?

Any organization wishing to post a service opportunity for the OLHS Interact Service Club should complete the Interact Service Club Contact Sheet. This sheet should then be faxed, mailed, or emailed to LHS using the contact information below. No Service Club activities can be taken over the phone as the information completed on this form is the information used to notify member students of the exact details of the service opportunity.

Completed Interact Service Club Contact Sheets should be sent to the attention of Interact Service Club Co-Advisor Nicole Davis in of the following ways:
