Students Learn and Play With Professional Athletes

Professional athletes visited students at two Olentangy elementary schools this month.  Members of the Ohio Machine, a major league lacrosse team, helped students at Cheshire Elementary School (CES) with their winter reading challenge called Reading Robots.  The lacrosse players read to the students, reinforcing that reading is important and fun.

At Wyandot Run Elementary School (WRES), the focus was on physical education as several members of the Columbus Blue Jackets and their coaches interacted with physical education teacher Shawn Mickens and his students in an NHL street hockey clinic.  Mickens teaches students hand-eye coordination in this unit while stressing fundamental skills. Students enjoyed learning hockey first hand from the Blue Jackets.
