Twenty-two Oasis students were recently rewarded for their academic achievement with a holiday lunch at the Lakes Golf and Country Club.
To participate in the lunch, students were required to earn at least an 80 percent in no less than four classes. The students then spent nine weeks working toward that goal. Teachers kept track of individual student performance and saw significant improvement in grades, said Oasis Principal Jennifer Blakley.
After the luncheon was announced, Oasis teachers noticed many students were readily seeking more adult support and asking more questions, Blakley said. “It turned out to be a great motivator and we’re looking forward to making this an annual tradition,” she said.
The holiday lunch was funded entirely by district families and Oasis staff.
OASIS is Olentangy Local School District’s alternative learning program. It features a unique, student-centered educational program for families who are looking for a different option than the traditional school setting.
