JCES Kindergarten Students Learn About Conservation

Kindergarten students at Johnnycake Corners Elementary School (JCES) were recently treated to a visit from representatives with Partners in Conservation and the Columbus Zoo.  The visitors taught the students about the gorillas of Rwanda and the need for conservation to save the gorilla habitat in the rainforest. Using information provided by Partners in Conservation and the Columbus Zoo, students researched the topic and created a nonfiction gorilla book.  Approaching  the project from this  point of view helped to utilize much of the kindergarten language arts, science and social studies curriculum goals.  Teacher Krista Hyme said that her students also learned how to be good citizens and to lend a helping hand to those in need.
