About NUMATS

NUMATS – Northwestern University Midwest Academic Talent Search

Standardized grade level tests have their place. Research has shown that, when bright students take above grade level tests that are meant for older students, the results help parents, teachers, and students learn more about the true potential of these academically talented individuals.

Olentangy Local Schools has promoted the NUMATS experience for several years. Last year, 9 of our elementary schools and all four of our middle schools had students who participated in this search; over 300 students registered for the 2008-2009 testing. Participants receive not only their own scores, but also a statistical comparison with the scores of their peers.

The information helps in making wiser decisions when planning courses a student should take and paths s/he might choose. The scores are supplied – but also a wealth of planning information. In addition, as of spring of 2009, the Ohio Department of Education has placed this testing opportunity on the approved identification instruments list.
